A more subdued later interior. Storage pockets located behind each side armrest.
The original Beaufighter’s dash – note the fit of the walnut facia. The wipers and lighting were operated from stalks and the rest of the switchgear was spread across the dash.

Controls and vents for the now standard air conditioning were situated under the central dash panel. Standard fresh-air ventilation to the upper cabin was supplied via four rotary vents, two at either end of the dash and two in the central section. They were supplemented by vents in each footwell, which ducted fresh air from the wing compartments.
American motoring magazine Road and Track described the interior as ‘old English stately’. With enough room inside for four people and 22cu ft of space for their luggage in a boot unhindered by a spare wheel, the publication felt that the car’s carrying capacity almost put it ‘in the station wagon category’. The two wing storage cubbies behind the front wheels, a feature of Bristol cars since the 1950s, undoubtedly helped to free up the space to provide for that generous luggage allowance. Although the siting of the spare wheel on the left and battery, brake servos and electrical panel on the right also helped to maintain good weight distribution, the concept, whilst functional, ultimately influenced the design. Many may question the Beaufighter’s looks but, with beauty being only skin deep, there is indeed a rare beauty in such functionality.
